“Making Young Disciples of Jesus by Sharing the Gospel in a Memorable Experience”
While there is much more to learn about CityKids, here are some brief excerpts from the CityKids Handbook, available at the information desk on Sunday worship service.
What is CityKids?
CityKids is the young children's ministry area at City On a Hill. We value the God-given responsibility that parents have in raising their children. We also believe that the entire church family is responsible for the discipleship of every child. We are committed to partnering with parents in teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ to children, enabling them to make daily choices that honor God and would reflect the love He has for this world.
CityKids provides an environment which encourages connection between adults and children, believing that these relationships are important in a child’s spiritual development. We are committed to safety, because it is our responsibility while children are in our care.
"Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one's youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate." Psalm 127:3-5, ESV
What to Expect on Sunday Mornings
Sometimes it is easier to say what something is not. CityKids is not distracting children so parents can get to worship. Rather, CityKids trains our youngest people. We aim to reach children’s hearts and minds with eternal goals as a primary emphasis.
The most important things we can do for children is to help them know, understand, and engage in God’s Gospel Story by knowing and experiencing God’s love for them. We believe the Gospel is the power of God for salvation to all who believe (Romans 1:16) and is the most important thing children could ever learn.
Therefore, our desire is to start helping them know the Gospel at the youngest age possible, starting with our youngest. Our focus for the children of City on a Hill is to help them know the Story of the Gospel...from Creation to Fall to New Creation.
We are not yet trying to teach them specific doctrines; we trust they will be learned through the Story. We are also not teaching them about the “heroes of the faith,” rather because we believe Jesus Christ is the Hero of every story, every character will be shown as a way to see fallen man in need of the Savior.
We expect our staff to understand these values, and to always leave the children not with a “moral of the story,” but the “Hero of the Gospel Story."
